What you can expect

Journey back to a tougher time in Tasmania with a visit to the historically preserved Port Arthur Historic Site. Led by local guides, you'll be able to explore the ruins of the one of the penal colony sites from the settlement era as well as the Isle of the Dead via a scenic and enjoyable cruise which will give you insight into the rich convict history of the site.

Your journey to Port Arthur departs Hobart every day except Saturday at 8:45am to then cross the Derwent River. You'll leave the city behind and venture into the Tasmanian middle ground to experience the beauty of its contrasting landscapes including ocean views and rugged coastlines. Once you've reached Port Arthur, you'll be given the chance to join in on a walking tour around the site - which is already included in the price - while also spending some time exploring the ruins and sites on your own to learn all about the area's dramatic history and cultural importance.

The Port Arthur Historic Site is a must-see when visiting Tasmania as it is rich in visual history and tells a story of troubling times to give insight into the convict era Australia once lived through. This day tour visits a number of great sights including the Tasman Arch, Tasman National Park and the Devil's Kitchen for a full day of adventure and scenery to return at 5pm. Not a worthwhile trip

Not a worthwhile trip! The bus driver/guide told irrelevant jokes with little information about the area. Once arrived at Port Arthur there is very little left of the original penal colony and one must use their “imagination “. Spend your time and money on something else.

My partner and I enjoyed the day trip a lot

My partner and I enjoyed the day trip a lot. Our tour guide, John, was a good driver and provided lots of interesting facts along the way. The journey back was a little bit confusing as we arrived in a big coach but got picked up in a small mini bus. We were waiting at the Visitor centre for a while expecting the same bus but we had to figure out by ourselves where our tour group was! Perhaps it would've been helpful to approach people waiting to inform them that our bus has changed. Apart from that, we enjoyed our day trip. It was also handy to have free wifi on the bus (which we found out about on the trip back) but it didn't always work well, it was quite slow sometimes.

I had a great time with the tour

I had a great time with the tour. The coach driver is very friendly and knowledgeable. He made sure that everyone is looked after. There was a mixed up with the passenger list which was not his fault. The coach left Hobart 30 mins late. But he gave us more time in the after to make up the delay. It's very nice of him to do this because The Port Arthur site is so big and rich in historical content that you really need every minutes of your tour time to go through as much as you can. The Port Arthur site staff were professional and knowledgeable. The whole site was curated and maintained very well. I'm really impressed. It's well worth it.
